Is your LinkedIn integration showing as invalid or disconnected? Don’t worry—refreshing your connection is straightforward! This guide will walk you through the steps, depending on how you originally set up your account.
Introduction
When a LinkedIn integration becomes invalid, the refresh process depends on how you connected the account in the first place.
There are several setup methods—Shared Extension, Shared Login, API Basic (Login/Password), and API Cookies—and each has its own way to re-authenticate.
Before you start, it’s important to identify which setup method was used.
If you’re not sure, check the Setup Source column in your integrations dashboard. This will help you remember how the account was connected.
The 3 Main Setup Methods
SHARED - EXTENSION
SHARED - LOGIN
API - BASIC (Login/Password) / API - COOKIES
Let’s go through each option step-by-step!
1. SHARED - EXTENSION
This method uses the Edges extension and a shared link. When an identity is created via the platform, a shared link is generated.
To refresh:
Copy the Shared Link from your dashboard.
Send the link to the LinkedIn account owner.
The owner must click “Accept” on the link to re-sync or reconfigure the account.
2. SHARED - LOGIN
This is used when creating an identity via API—you’ll see a login link in the API response.
To refresh:
Retrieve the Login Link (from your API response or dashboard).
Resend the Login Link to the user.
The user reconnects with their LinkedIn username/password, and completes any checkpoint steps.
3. API - BASIC (Login/Password)
This method uses the Edges API authentication endpoint.
To refresh:
Go to the API authentication endpoint.
Resend the LinkedIn credentials (username & password) and complete any checkpoint if needed.
Account is refreshed upon successful login.
4. API - COOKIES
If you use cookies, you’ll connect via the integrations connect endpoint by sending in the latest li_at (and li_a if it's a premium/Sales Nav account).
To refresh:
Collect the most recent cookies from a valid LinkedIn session.
Resend these cookies to the integration endpoint.
The integration will update with valid cookies.
